THOUSANDS of children across Kirklees have been getting their noses into a good book thanks to a reading scheme.

The Boys into Books project aims to encourage youngsters to read for fun by donating free books to 154 eligible schools across the borough.

The Boys into Books, one of the two strands in the National Year of Reading platform, tied in with the recent World Book Day.

Clr John Smithson, Kirklees Council Cabinet member for Children and Families, said: “Reading should be an integral part of every child’s life and I am delighted at the support shown by Kirklees Council for this project.

“The books sent out to schools in Kirklees have been read by many thousands of young people.”

The latest Kirklees school to benefit from Boys into Books is Crosland Moor Junior School.

Acting head teacher Angela Gledhill visited the Booksplus premises in Red Doles Lane, Fartown.

She was joined by a group of pupils to help her choose books for their school and to have a tour of the warehouse.
