KIRKLEES is getting behind a national reading initiative to encourage people to enjoy sociable reading.

Reading groups meet regularly in all kinds of venues from libraries to community centres and from homes to pubs. And yesterday the service celebrated National Reading Group Day.

Kirklees libraries offer a free book supply service to all book groups in Kirklees. Multiple copies of the same book can be borrowed free and sometimes a large print or talking book is also available.

Kirklees Council Cabinet Member Clr Shabir Pandor commented: “Reading groups are a great way to broaden your reading experience, but they are also a vital part of our community as they provide the opportunity to meet regularly with people and to talk in a relaxed and friendly environment.”

Reading club member Suzanne Dufton said: “I certainly feel that our reading group contributes to my individual wellbeing.”

If you are interested in joining a reading group or starting your own call into your local library or call 01484 226300 for details.
