FIRST time runner Kirsty Walker put on her running shoes in memory of a couple she knew.

Kirsty, 21, from Almondbury, completed the Bath Half Marathon on behalf of the Mullany Fund in memory of Ben and Catherine Mullany.

The third year physiotherapist student at the University of West of England (UWE) in Bristol was one of UWE’s 15 students taking part.

She said: “I’ve only run to keep fit really. I started little short runs to train for the marathon, but its difficult to find the time because I’m in my final year at uni so I’m very busy.”

The Mullany Fund was set up by friends and family of Ben and Cath to support UK students who wish to study medicine and physiotherapy.

It was set up in memory of Ben and Catherine Mullany who were shot and killed by robbers in Antigua last July while on their honeymoon.

Catherine was a doctor training to be a GP and Ben was a third year physio student at UWE.
