A family-run store has been targeted by armed robbers once again.

Staff at the Close Hill Food Centre in Newsome faced a terrifying knife ordeal on Sunday afternoon – just two months after they were left shaken by another armed raid at the premises.

A policewoman stood guard outside the shop as officers interviewed the shopkeepers inside.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “Two white males have gone into the shop with a knife and took money and cigarettes. No one was injured. Threats were made and they left the scene.”

The raid was reported at 2.55pm and police were at the scene for most of the afternoon.

A neighbour, Rob Ellis, said: “It’s shocking this can happen to this lovely family again.”

In June the owner, Anoop Kaur Lola, was getting ready to shut the shop when she was confronted and threatened by a robber brandishing a large pole shaped object.

It is not thought Mrs Lola was in the shop at the time of the latest raid.

The family has run the shop for more than 30 years and this is at least the third raid.
