LABOUR is planning a special push to retake Colne Valley.

Kali Mountford held the three-way marginal seat for the party from 1997 until her retirement in 2010.

However, Labour slipped to third place behind the Conservatives and the Lib Dems at last years General Election.

Now Labour has launched its Third Place First campaign, designed to recapture votes in places where the party came third.

Labours election co-ordinator, Andy Burnham, said: Third Place First is a campaign bringing together parties in currently non-Labour seats such as Colne Valley to share campaigning expertise and encourage Labour people onto the doorstep.

The campaign will bring Labour activists together to discuss strategies for developing local party machinery, campaigning with minimal resources and how to make an impact.

Labour came third last year in 13 seats which the party won in the 1997 landslide including Colne Valley and Leeds North West.
