A CANDIDATE has been selected to contest a knife-edge Kirklees Council seat.
Yunus Gajra will fight Dewsbury South for the Labour party in the local elections on May 1.
The father-of-three works for Bradford City Council.
He said: “I will campaign on behalf of local residents and stand with the many hard-working people of Dewsbury.
“I will stand against the plans to end weekly bin collections and I want to reopen the Walker Welfare Centre, which has been closed with no consideration for the people who use it.
“We also need the council to get tough on anti-social behaviour in the area and make Dewsbury South a better and safer place for everyone.”
Dewsbury South was the third most closely-fought seat in last year’s Kirklees elections. Conservative Salim Patel beat Labour’s Abdulhai Munshi by just 136 votes.
