A fire early this morning at The Land Rover Centre, Lockwood, caused tens of thousands of pounds of damage.

Two fire crews from Huddersfield were called to the blaze in a lean-to at the side of the main building at the Bridge Street premises just before 5am.

They had to break in through the steel gates as the premises. The crews soon had the fire under control, but not before five classic Land Rovers parked under the lean-to had been written off, and three nearby vehicles suffered slight damage.

The wooden walls of the structure were badly damaged and the fibre glass roof melted. The firefighters did, however, prevent the blaze from spreading to the main building,.

The cause of the fire is not known and fire investigators have been called in.
