STAFF at Tesco in Huddersfield have ‘cycled to Lapland’ – without leaving the warmth of their Viaduct Street store.

Two exercise bikes, decked out as reindeer, were set up in the store foyer and staff took turns to cycle as many “static” miles as they could to raise cash for Cancer Research.

The target was to clock up 1,360 miles – the distance from Huddersfield to Lapland – during the three-day fundraiser at the weekend.

A cake stall was also being manned so that customers could support the efforts of staff by buying the goodies on offer.

Shareen Kauser, better service manager at the store, said: “We aim to raise as much money as we can by cycling as far as we can.

“It is a company-wide effort to raise £1m for Cancer Research. Stores across the country are taking part as well as head office and our distribution centres.”
