GET down to the Piazza in Huddersfield town centre tomorrow for a chance to win £1,000.

That’s the message from the Examiner marketing team which is looking for one more lucky person to join five others in the final of their Grab a Grand competition, run in conjunction with the Piazza Shopping Centre.

All entrants have to do is to buy a copy of Saturday’s Examiner and hand the Grab a Grand token in to the Examiner stand on the piazza between 10.30am and 12 noon on Saturday .

At midday, a token will be drawn out of a box and the owner will take a turn, along with the five already selected, to win £1,000 in the Examiner booth.

The booth, which resembles a modern telephone kiosk with a countdown clock on top, is filled with circulating air and tokens and each entrant has 30 seconds to grab as many as they can. The one with the most tokens wins £1,000.

Examiner senior brand executive Natasha Maskery said: “We want as many people as possible to come down to the Piazza on Saturday – come rain or shine.

“This is the first time that we have run the competition and the response from readers has been fantastic, with over 1,000 entrants. We are now just looking for that final person to come down and have the chance to grab a grand.”

The other five finalists, chosen randomly by a computer, are:

Raegen Cartledge, 23, a teacher training student at Huddersfield University. Raegen, of Hawthorne Terrace, Crosland Moor, plays for Huddersfield Town FC Ladies. If she won the £1,000, she would put it towards a car.

Susan Laird, 58, retired, of Britannia Crescent, Birkby. Susan is about to become a grandmother, as her daughter, Carmen, an assistant psychologist from Moldgreen, is about to have a baby. Carmen’s partner, commercial electrician Tim Senior, 33, will be Susan’s representative in the Grab a Grand booth.

The money would go to opening a bank accountŠ for her new grandson, towards funds for university or something for his future.

Jennie Hibbert, 40, a teaching assistant at Almondbury High School, of Intake, Golcar. Jennie is married to Neil and they have one daughter, Lauren, who is10.

If she won, Jennie would spend the money on a family holiday and treats for the family.

Mary Kain, 53, Huddersfield University catering assistant, of Sunningdale Road, Crosland Moor. Mary is married to Peter and they have two children. Son Paul, 29, lives in Australia and daughter Sarah, 28, until recently in the Army, now works for Virgin Media. Sarah will be Mary’s representative in the booth.

Mary would love to visit Paul in Australia if she won.

Shirley Tidswell, 76, retired, of Greenacres Close, Emley. Shirley is married to Fred and they have one daughter, Jane Tidswell, 46, a grandson, Luke Frampton and a great grand-daughter Olivia Frampton. Shirley would like to go on holiday if she won the £1,000.
