STAFF at one of Huddersfield’s threatened children’s nurseries were today mounting another bid to halt its closure.

Union officials representing workers at the Cambridge Road nursery were asking top councillors to think again about the closure decision.

The council’s Cabinet was today being asked to approve a plan which will see Cambridge Road shut along with the Sankofa Nursery at the Hudawi Centre.

A plan to keep open the Tiddlywinks nursery at Deighton is being put to the meeting.

But Mike Forster, of Unison, hopes a plea to councillors will see them agree to postpone the closure of Cambridge Road until next year.

“The council’s own Scrutiny Panel has said there is more evidence to collect and we will be asking the Cabinet members to agree to a postponement so that they can look at all the information,” he said.
