POLICE have appealed for the public's help after a man's body was discovered on a railway line at Ravensthorpe.

The Examiner understands a train driver passing on the opposite rails spotted the body of the 24-year-old at around 6.30am this morning.

Paramedics tried to revive him but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The discovery sparked a lockdown on that stretch of track and thousands of commuters faced long delays to journeys as British Transport Police examined the scene.

They are now investigating the death but have not revealed whether the man was hit by a train or died of other causes.

A spokesman said: "The incident is currently being treated as unexplained and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
