TWO Giants players have helped boost funds for a Huddersfield charity – after turning in man-of-the-match performances.
The Laura Crane Trust found itself £200 better off after Giants stars Leroy Cudjoe and David Hodgson were selected for the Engage Super League XIV Man of the Match Charity award in association with league sponsor Engage Mutual and Sky Sports.
Leroy won his award for his performance in the Giants’ televised first round match against Bradford Bulls, while David was similarly honoured after the 11th round game against Castleford Tigers.
Award winners are invited to nominate a charity for a £100 gift – and both players nominated the Laura Crane Trust, the Giants’ chosen charity.
In addition, the trust also benefited from a competition for fans attending the Magic Weekend of Super League fixtures in Edinburgh. The contest to win £100 for charity was won by an unnamed Giants fan, who chose the trust to benefit.
Trust manager Pam Thornes said: “We are truly delighted with the support we received from the Huddersfield Giants as their charity of choice, but we are thrilled the players have also embraced the cause and are helping us to tackle cancer in young people.
“Our sincere thanks go to Leroy and David.ŠWe would like to send out a very special thank you to the Giants fan who attended the Magic Weekend, for thinking about the Laura Crane Trust and putting us forward to receive a £100 donation.”
