FORMER students at Huddersfield University are helping a Batley-born tycoon succeed in the world of fashion.

Lawrence Tomlinson, who heads racing and road car manufacturer Ginetta, showcased the work of graduates now designing clothes for his new menswear label, Ginetta Lifestyle, when he delivered the annual lecture to members of the Chartered Management Institute at Huddersfield University.

Mr Tomlinson, who studied mechanical engineering at Huddersfield Technical College, is founding chairman of Leeds-based LNT Group which employs more than 2,000 people across its five core businesses of care homes, construction, software, chemicals and car manufacturing.

During his lecture, he spoke about the growth and management of his diverse businesses and discussed general trading issues with audience members during a question-and-answer session.

Mr Tomlinson is one of a number of UK business leaders being consulted by Government ministers about business issues.

He said: “I like attending these events because I get a feel for how others in business are finding things and how they are managing in these difficult times. It helps me formulate my opinions and in my talks with ministers.

“Things are tough, but we have been in this situation for the last three or four years. The start of this year has been just as difficult as the end of 2012 – and we are all having to work harder.”
