CHARITIES in Huddersfield could benefit from holidaymakers’ unwanted foreign coins.

Leeds Bradford Airport is calling on local registered charities to apply for funding from its Foreign Coin Collection Scheme.

The fundraising initiative was launched more than 10 years ago and invites passengers at the airport to donate their loose foreign coins when they return from their travels.

Last year, the fund raised more than £4,500 which was split between the Macular Disease Society and Childline.

Charities should email charity@lbia.co.uk explaining in no more than 150 words what they do and how the money would be used.

A charity will be picked each month.
