The Tour de France riders were preceeded by the 'caravane' - a procession of 180 vehicles handing out freebies to the crowds.

Lucky spectators got their hands on free teabags, sweets, hats, rubber bracelets, soft drinks and t shirts.

The floats gave out 60,000 packets of Haribo sweets and five million Yorkshire tea bags.

The caravane trundled along the route about two hours before the riders and helped keep the momentum going as everyone waited eagerly for the bikers to come past.

It is 12km long and takes about 40 minutes to pass.
