AN Islamic scholar will be the guest speaker at a meeting in Huddersfield.

Ataul Majeeb Rashid, Imam of the London Mosque, will head a seminar at the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association's base in Lower Fitzwilliam Street.

The seminar on Islam's Response to Contemporary Issues runs from about 4.15pm until 6pm on Sunday, May 30.

It aims to give invited guests the opportunity to ask question on issues such as jihad (holy war), suicide bombings, the status of women in Islam, human rights and terrorism.

Huddersfield mosque president Mohammed Tahir Virik said the seminar aimed to eliminate misconceptions. The situation in the world warranted steps to creating a more harmonious and understanding society.
