A CRIME prevention event is being held to warn people against doorstep tricksters.

The event has been organised by Neighbourhood Wardens in Almondbury.

It will be held at All Hallows Church Hall in Northgate, Almondbury, from 2pm next Monday.

Neighbourhood Warden Dave Sanderson said: "The aim is to promote crime prevention and educate elderly people in how to deal with callers to their homes, in an effort to reduce the number of opportunistic burglaries."

Conmen call at homes and pretend to work for companies such as Yorkshire Water to get inside.

Once in, they distract the victim while an accomplice slips in and searches through drawers, cupboards and wardrobes looking for cash or jewellery.

Pc Mick Longden, of Huddersfield police, will show a video at the event and provide crime prevention literature and equipment.
