FREE Indian dance sessions are on offer in Huddersfield.

Would-be participants can now bag a place at a class at the Galpharm Stadium on Saturday.

The offer comes from the Bollywood Dance and Fitness Academy.

Classes, for women and girls only, are Bollywood from 5.30pm to 6.30pm and bhangra from 6.30pm to 7.30pm.

The academy was launched in April this year and leader Salma Zaman, of Fixby, says it's the first ever school in this area to specialise in styles such as Bollywood, bhangra, Lollywood, Turkish Arabic belly dance, and street jazz dance. Bollywood is the film industry in India and Lollywood is the Pakistani version. The academy also runs Bollywood and bhangra aerobic sessions plus dancing and acting Bollywood style.

Salma says: "The success in Kirklees means we now hope to expand to Bradford and Leeds in the new year.

"So far, we've helped students get their Duke of Edinburgh award as Bollywood and bhangra dancing is recognised as a fitness programme.

"Dancing promotes and encourages communication, self-confidence, self-awareness and a cardiovascular activity session which helps tackle obesity, heart disease, osteoporosis and high blood pressure."

She added: "What are you waiting for? Give the academy a call and try the lastest craze. Keep up to date with the lastest grooves and moves of these sizzling and hot dance styles."

Classes are available for girls and women aged seven and upwards but places are limited.
