RUNNERS took part in a fun run to remember a special friend and raise money for good causes.

Town legend Andy Booth started the race at Leeds Road playing fields for Andrew’s Day.

The event was set up in memory of Andrew Spencer – a much-loved member of musical theatre circles in Huddersfield who died suddenly when he was just 33.

Andrew was also a talented actor, dancer and rugby player.

Friend and former neighbour Irene Heatherill, from Waterloo, said: “It went very well and we had a good turn-out and the good weather brought people out.”

The event saw a toddlers’ fancy dress fun run and a five kilometres event for all age groups.

There were also stalls, face painting, a bouncy castle, refreshments and games.

Epilepsy sufferer Andrew died suddenly at his Waterloo home, in July, 2008, although it is not known if his condition contributed to his death.

Money raised from Andrew’s Day will go to CRY(Cardiac Risk in the Young) and epilepsy charities.
