Singing starlet Georgia Harrup was voted off the BBC talent show The Voice on Saturday night but said: “I’ve come further than I ever imagined.”

The Lepton singer was one of four contestants eliminated at the quarter-final stage after singing and dancing her way through Money on my Mind, a song by Sam Smith.

One act from each of the four mentors’ groups had to leave, and Georgia found herself eliminated while Sir Tom Jones’ two other singers Bizzi Dixon and Sally Barker were saved.

A tearful Georgia, 27, said afterwards: “This whole experience has just been incredible and I am so humbled to have been a part of it.

“I will never forget this and the fantastic time I have had with Sir Tom Jones and the rest of The Voice crew.”

She described her journey on The Voice as an “amazing opportunity and the best time” and thanked people for the support she had through the series.

Georgia had earlier described her song choice as “very different to the stuff I normally do” and Sir Tom Jones revealed on the programme that she “didn’t like the song to start with but you pumped it.”

He said she had “built-in rhythm” and was “very vibrant.”

Kylie Minogue said Georgia’s stage set “looked like one of mine” while will.i.am described it as the number one performance of the show.

Fellow judge, Kaiser Chief frontman Ricky Wilson, said it was a “bold song choice” and tough to sing.

Georgia had the support of Mayor of Kirklees Clr Martyn Bolt who said: “In my year as Mayor I’ve seen so much musical talent and it’s great Georgia is one of those who has made it on to the national stage on her own merit. She’s fantastic.”

It was ultimately a night of disappointment as Georgia was one of four girls to leave the show, along with Iesher Haughton, Rachael O’Connor and Emily Adams.
