PRIMARY school pupils put on their best bib and tucker when they staged a ball.

Children from Meltham Moor Primary School's reception classes enjoyed taking part in the ball, where they showed off steps they had learned during dance lessons.

Their fancy footwork included the jive, cha cha cha, waltz and barn dance.

The boys made their own ties and cummerbunds.

The girls created pretty tiaras to go with their gowns.

Children also got the chance to decorate the hall for a ball and drink from `goblets'.

The event was part of their class topic: Traditional Tales.

Lessons were centred around the fairytale of Cinderella and the ball she attends.

Teacher Louise Wheeler said: "We like to do things a bit differently here!

"We always try to do something at the end of the Easter term so that the kids can work towards it.

"The children were superb with the dancing - they kept up with most of the steps and really loved it.

"The dancing was not only good fun and exercise for them - it's also helped them develop their personal and social skills with the boys and girls dancing together."

Staff helped organise the ball and music teacher Sue Farrell taught the dances.
