A CAR left a Kirklees museum carrying an unusual passenger - a stuffed puma.

Colin Howes, from Doncaster, picked up the beast from the Bagshaw Museum, Batley.

The animal has been in the museum for the past 10 years as part of the Enchanted Forest gallery there.

But Doncaster Museum, which owns the cat, wanted it returning for an exhibition of its own.

So it was ferried from Batley to Doncaster by Mr Howes, in the back of his car - with its head poking out of a sleeping bag.

It will be replaced by an alligator from the Kirklees collection.

Kathryn White, Bag- shaw's museum officer said the puma had been very popular with visitors, particularly the younger ones.

She said: "You don't find many alligators in Batley, so I'm sure people will enjoy the chance to see one close up over the next few months."
