HUDDERSFIELD should be included in the high-speed rail link, say councillors.

Lib Dems on Kirklees Council have called on the Government to involve the town in its £30bn plan.

Ministers are drawing up proposals for 250mph rail routes linking London to Birmingham, Manchester, Sheffield and Leeds.

Lib Dems have submitted a motion to tonight’s monthly council meeting calling for Huddersfield to be involved in the plan.

Clr Tony Woodhead of Lindley said: “The high-speed rail link will bring major opportunities to the North of England and we want our local MPs to be in the thick of it putting Huddersfield’s case for inclusion.

“We hope that all members will get behind us in calling for our MPs to effectively represent the interests of the area and local people.”
