THE Liberal Democrats have kicked off their campaign to contest the Colne Valley seat.

Dr Elisabeth Wilson was adopted as the Parliamentary candidate at a meeting at Lindley Liberal Club. She was supported by Lord Shutt, of Greetland.

At the meeting, Dr Wilson, originally from Todmorden, hit out at the Government for its record on health and education.

She also said her party had a real chance in the May 5 General Election.

She added: "Liberal Democrats are committed to axeing council tax.

"We are the party that is trusted more about tax than any other - because our sums add up.

"We are only introducing one extra tax - on those who earn more than £100,000, who will pay 10p extra in the pound," she said.

After a management career, Dr Wilson now teaches management skills to help leaders of developing countries build their economies.

She holds a PhD and a Master of Business Administration degree from Huddersfield University.
