A LIBRARY and children’s centre celebrated its first birthday in splendid style.

And dozens of families helped mark the occasion when Rawthorpe and Dalton Library, Information and Children’s Centre opened its doors for a special event.

The much-needed facility was opened 12 months ago after being built on a site of derelict shops.

Members of the community have thrown their support behind it.

And to say ‘thank you’, centre staff organised a fun-filled day of activities for the whole family.

Children enjoyed activities including party games, crafts, face-painting and a performance from Dalton-based poet Craig Bradley.

Adults enjoyed bead therapy and Indian head massage.

Linda Earnshaw, the centre’s customer service manager, said: “It is a very vibrant centre.

“People here have been really enthusiastic about it.

“We organised the day to thank members of the community for showing their support by using the library and centre’s services in the first year.

“We also want to show people new to the centre how they can become more involved as we head into our second year of existence.”
