THE lending section of Huddersfield Public Library is likely to stay shut until next week after flood damage.

Staff have set up a temporary desk in the reception area, so borrowers can return books.

The entire building - which houses other library departments and the town's art gallery - was shut on Tuesday after a huge rainstorm hit the town.

Rainwater poured through the lending library's glass roof, sparking a big clean-up. The building reopened on Wednesday, apart from the lending library.

A library spokeswoman said: "The public can return books to the temporary desk in the reception area.

"But it is likely to be next week at the earliest before the lending library will reopen for borrowing."
