THE revamped Brighouse Library and Art Gallery will re-open to the public on Tuesday, October 21.

The building at Rydings Park has been extensively restored and updated in a major £700,000 scheme.

Features include a new layout, refreshments area, a lift to the upper floor, improved toilet facilities and a baby change facility. Parking is available in the park and there is a bus stop nearby on Halifax Road.

After opening to the public the building will be officially declared open by children’s author and illustrator Anthony Browne on Thursday, October 23.

A building in Lawson Road has been used as a temporary library during the refurbishment.

Its last day of opening will be Saturday, October 11, so books and equipment can be moved and set up at Rydings Park.

A mobile library will then be stationed in Lawson Road until 5pm on normal opening days.

Library users can have extended loan periods or take out extra material

Clr Amanda Byrne, Calderdale Council’s members responsible for community services, said: “We look forward to welcoming people back to Rydings Park in our lovingly restored and updated building.

“The council is committed to investing in libraries and museums fit for the 21st century.

“This work is one of a several library improvement schemes planned across the borough for the next few years.”
