THEY tasted the high life in Almondbury this week!

Young players from Almondbury Wesleyan Cricket Club celebrated in style – with a fleet of luxury cars taking them to their final game.

And they won that game to put the seal on a super season which has seen them crowned Section B champions of the Huddersfield Under-15 Junior Cricket League.

The players left their Kaye Lane cricket ground in a fleet of luxury cars provided by main club sponsor Mercedes-Benz of Huddersfield.

Proud captain Will Binns accepted the shield from Huddersfield Junior Cricket League chairman Phil Senior.

Team manager Alan Stanger said: “The team has remained unbeaten all season and are deserved winners.

“We are very grateful for the support of Mercedes-Benz, who enabled us to travel to our final game of the season as champions in great style.”

The team’s outstanding season can get even better.

They are already through to the semi-final of the Armitage Cup and as section champions they will play in the Champion of Champions over the coming month where league leaders from all four under-15 sections play off to decide the overall champion.

Stanger is optimistic that the success will continue and said: “The forthcoming weeks are vital for the whole team and if we stay focused and perform to our usual level we should do well.”
