A LINDLEY man has been charged in connection with two armed robberies.

Jamal Benjamin, 19, of Dearne Fold, is alleged to have brandished an imitation gun at two shopkeepers.

He is alleged to have used a fake gun to rob the Londis supermarket at Wakefield Road, Denby Dale, at around 6.45pm on Saturday June 28.

Benjamin was further charged in connection with the armed robbery of a William Hill bookmaker in Sowerby Bridge, Halifax, at 8.20pm on the same night.

Again it is alleged he used an imitation firearm.

Appearing before Huddersfield Magistrates’ Court yesterday, Benjamin did not enter a plea.

Magistrates refused an application to release Benjamin on bail and remanded him in custody.

They sent the case to Bradford Crown Court, where Benjamin will appear on July 24 via video link.

Police arrested three other men in connection with the incident. Two 21-year-old men and a 19-year-old man, all from the Huddersfield area, have been questioned by police and released pending further enquiries.
