AN OLD Zion Methodist graveyard has been transformed into a garden of remembrance.

Many Lindley folk were buried between Holly Bank Road, Lidget Street and Zion Close, but the old site had not been used for many years.

Clr Christine Stanfield contacted the Kirklees Council parks department and suggested it be transformed into a remembrance garden for past generations.

And now the garden has been officially opened.

Clr Stanfield said: “This has been beautifully planted up with bulbs for the spring which will be followed by the permanent planting of rosemary for remembrance, lavender and other soft blue and grey foliage plants.

“We all hope it will be respected as a quiet spot for local residents to walk through or sit in peace and quiet.

“This is not a place to walk dogs or for young children to play football – we hope to keep it as a quiet and beautiful garden in memory of those who lived in Lindley in the past.”
