A LINDLEY student is one of four Leeds Grammar School pupils who have achieved success in the British Biology Olympiad.

Seventeen-year-old Joe Johnson and Nikita Balaji were awarded highly commended certificates for their performance in the online examination.

Classmates Julia Shaw and Abhishek Oswal were awarded silver medals.

The BBO is an annual national competition for sixth-form students run by a volunteer committee of experienced teachers and lecturers with the support of the Society of Biology.

More than 2,800 students took part in the competition this year.

The BBO aims to challenge and stimulate gifted students with an interest in biology to expand and extend their talents beyond the A-level syllabus, enabling gifted students to demonstrate their knowledge of and interest in the subject.

Julia, Abhishek and Nikita all have places at universities to study medicine and Joe has a place to study natural sciences when they leave school this summer.
