AT the age of three Amelia Fielding just wanted to dance.

And now the Linthwaite teenager has been named among the finalists of a national dance competition and is considering a professional dancing career.

Amelia, 16, is through to the final of Miss Dance Great Britain, organised by the International Dance Teachers’ Association.

She beat off competition at regional heats to make the final and will compete against the best young dancers from around the country at Blackpool in June.

Mum Claire Fielding said: "She started to dance aged three. I’d gone to a dancing school so I took her along to see how she’d take to it.

"She now wants to make a career in dance."

Amelia is a pupil at Colne Valley High School and is studying for her GCSEs this summer.

She dances at the Adele Taylor School of Dance in Huddersfield and also attends the Louise Brown ballet school in York every Saturday morning.

She was nominated for an IDTA scholarship in Manchester for her ballet and modern dance and won the Pam Tidmarsh Award, finishing as runner-up in a contest of 72 dancers.

Amelia dances tap, ballet and contemporary styles. Claire added: "She dances about four times a week. She’ll come home from school, do her homework and revision then dance.

"She wants to do her A-levels and then apply to dance colleges which are mainly based in London.

"I think she’d love to be in a West End show and dance professionally."

Sister Lily, 13, is a keen dancer too and also keeps busy playing the violin and swimming.

Claire and husband Andrew take them to all the competitions to give them their total support.

"It’s a massive achievement for Amelia to get to the final we’ll definitely be cheering her on," Claire added.
