YOUNGSTERS have been invited to take part in library competitions in Huddersfield.

The contests are being run in conjunction with the Kirklees One Book project, to encourage people to get creative with `Lion Boy'. The novel is being used in the project to bring diverse communities together through reading the same book.

There's a chance to go on a writing adventure by creating a story, poem, rap or song inspired by the book which is available at Kirklees libraries. And an art competition gives people the opportunity to create images - a drawing, painting, photo or collage - to illustrate the book.

The winners of the writing competition will receive places for themselves and their immediate family/carers on a writing retreat at the Ted Hughes Arvon Centre in Heptonstall with Lion Boy's author Zizou Corder, aka Louisa Young and her daughter Isabel Adomakoh Young, in February.

Books worth £100 form the first prize in the illustrator competition. There will £50 worth of books for the second prize and £25 for the third prize.

The deadline for entries to both competitions is Friday, January 6.
