HUDDERSFIELD town centre is all set for a Santa bonanza just before Christmas to give many charities a festive boost.

But to be a huge and spectacular success the sponsored Santa dash needs hundreds of volunteers to step forward to don a Santa suit and run around the town.

Participants in the Huddersfield, Meltham and Holme Valley Lions’ Santa Dash can raise money for charities or good causes of their choice.

The Lions have set up the event so all people have to do is register, take part and raise the cash.

The event, which takes place in Huddersfield town centre on December 11, is open to adults and children.

The Lions pushed a Christmas sleigh around the town recently to encourage people to sign up for the event.

Bob Armitage from Huddersfield Lions said: “People can raise money for whichever charity they like. “It can be the smaller community charities as well as the larger ones.”

Among the charities taking part is the Laura Crane Youth Cancer Trust which is appealing for volunteers to fill the 50 places the charity has been allocated.

The Edgerton-based trust will use the money raised in the dash to buy presents for young people who will be spending Christmas in hospital.
