RESIDENTS at Leonard Cheshire Beechwood in Edgerton are dusting off their little red minibus.

And they are getting ready to have a second crack at the wheelchair route of the Examiner Charity Challenge, which will be held in Beaumont Park on Sunday, May 22.

They have revamped a wheelchair to look like a bus and plan to join other entrants in the popular charity effort.

They hope their efforts will raise money towards their £28,000 Minibus Appeal.

The target is to purchase a specially-adapted vehicle which can transport up to four residents in wheelchairs.

This year nine Beechwood residents will be taking part, four for the second time.

Andrew Walker and Christine Schofield are hoping that the weather will be just as good last year. Andrew and his family raised over £300 of the £800 total sponsorship for Bryan Road’s Beechwood home last year.

But not content to rest on his laurels, he is keen to do even better this time.

Volunteer Coordinator, Pat Whalley was delighted to learn that Beechwood was one of the designated charities for 2011.

She said: “It is not easy for less well-known organisations like ourselves to raise funds and our target of £28,000 sometimes seems a long way away.

“ It is great that the Examiner and the Lions hold events like this to enable us to not only raise sponsorship, but to raise our profile so that more people are aware what we are trying to do.”
