Traffic: M62 'easing'
The traffic is now easing and delays have been cleared on the M62 westbound around junction 23, Huddersfield, following the earlier accident.
There is “patchy congestion” on the route from Leeds towards Manchester.
Clearing up now
Phew! The angry red lines are disapparing off Google Traffic.
As you can see there’s some delays westbound near Huddersfield:
But eastbound has cleared as far as we can tell:
M62 'ruined my day'
The congestion on the M62 has ruined many people’s day, not to mention those caught up in the crash earlier.
We have heard of people struggling to get to Manchester Airport and others who have been sitting in traffic for two hours or so.
Traffic: M62 still congested
Our photographer has just sent these pictures overlooking the M62 near Hartshead services.
It’s clear that westbound traffic is still badly congested.
We are told that traffic did start to improve but regular peak-time congestion added to the delays. Local routes are also congested.
WATCH: Traffic stuck by Hartshead Moor Services
Our photographer has captured the M62 chaos - good luck to those heading home
M62: Long delays continuing
This is the view many M62 drivers and passengers have right now.
One driver, Alex, has told us: “M62 gridlocked at 2mph for 2 hours just want to get home.”
Two hours before traffic returns to normal
Hold on to your hats: The Highways Agency say traffic conditions westbound are expected to return to normal between 6pm and 6.15, while traffic eastbound should be returned to normal between 4.45 and 5pm.
Breaking: All lanes now open
Highways England say the last two vehicles have been recovered and all lanes are now open again.
Don’t expect to be going anywhere fast though. Still stagnant queues that will take a while to get moving.
Gridlock on both sides between Leeds and Bradford
Here’s the latest image from the scene from live motorway cameras. It’s not a pretty sight. Traffic still looking gnarled up both ways - this was taken between Chain Bar and Gildersome.
However, traffic eastbound seems to have cleared around junction 24, but busy heading further towards Leeds. Westbound suffering queues of up to 13 miles.
M62 traffic having knock-on effect on local roads
The traffic is also having a knock on effect on the local roads. Heavy traffic on Bradford Road coming out of/towards Brighouse in Wyke as people come off at the M606 to escape the nightmare.
M62 travel time reduced to 70 minutes
Travel time now reduced from 90 minutes to 70, according to our traffic partners INRIX! Well that’s okay then...
"No-one hurt" in four-vehicle smash
No-one has been injured in the four-vehicle accident, police have said.
A spokeswoman said officers were called to junction 24 westbound just before 1pm after a collision between a red Vauxhall Corsa, black Kia Rio, Mercedes A Class and a VW Scirocco.
Damage has been caused to the vehicles. Two are awaiting recovery in the closed lane, two have left the scene.
Black line of doom on traffic map
It’s the thick black line that makes you say “nope”. Highways England say the worst of the congestion is between junction 24 and 27 westbound.
The worst queues are westbound where the accident has occurred at junction 24, but looks busy on the other side between Ainley Top and Brighouse with people slowing down to look.
If you’re heading towards Huddersfield from Leeds, the best option to to take the A62 coming on at Birstall Retail Park at junction 27, and hop, skip, jump it through Batley, Roberttown and Liversedge.
Traffic reduced to three lanes
Just to re-iterate. If you’re heading towards Huddersfield or Manchester from Leeds or Bradford this afternoon, you’re in for a 90 minute delay. We are currently waiting for an update from police as to what has happened and if there have been any injuries in the accident.
Traffic was being reduced to two lanes of four, but the third lane re-opened half an hour ago. Don’t expect to be going anywhere in a hurry.
11 miles of queues on the M62
Severe problems on the M62 this afternoon. Queues as long as 11 MILES westbound between Ainley Top and Brighouse. Congestion is all the way back to junction 27. Looking at motorway cameras, the traffic looks awful both ways. Avoid, avoid, avoid.
A lane has been closed due to a four-vehicle accident. Travel time as much as 90 minutes. If you’re stuck, we feel for you. At least it’s Friday...

Chef dons a poppy - on his HAIR!
Some choose to wear one on their lapels. some on their cars, while others pay their respect through simply remembering our soldiers who died in the wars.
But Holmfirth’s Poppa Piccolino’s chef Justin Harrison has taken it to the next step with his poppy tribute to our war heroes.
Justin has had one branded on the back of his head as his mark of respect. The chef is known for having quirky designs dyed on his hair, which have in the past included the Yorkshire flag, a Christmas pudding and a whole host of cartoon characters.
M62 busy in both directions
Trouble on the M62 is now on both carriages, according to our traffic partners INRIX. One lane westbound is blocked by an accident near Rishworth Moor which has been causing a lot of congestion.
The entry slip road on the eastbound side at junction 26 for Chain Bar also has one lane closed, which is slowing traffic heading towards Leeds. Traffic on both sides is slow but said to be coping well.
Appeal after camera theft in station
A thief stole a bag containing a £500 camera from the Wetherspoons pub in Leeds Station, police have said today.
The victim was sat in the pub on October 9 when the thief struck, taking the bag from under the man’s chair and leaving the station.
British Transport Police have now released a CCTV image of a man they want to speak to in connection with the incident.
It follows a theft from a Mirfield woman in the same bar, when her handbag was stolen and she tracked the thieves down using a tracking app connected to her iPad. The woman confronted the pair in a nearby pub and was assaulted trying to retrieve her bag.
If you have any information on either incident, call British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40.

Busy traffic going westbound this afternoon
The M62 westbound heading from Huddersfield towards Rishworth Moor doesn’t look much fun right now. Currently experiencing very slow traffic - here’s the scene near Ainley Top.
