Here’s the latest on the roads around Huddersfield and West Yorkshire:

1) Slow traffic and entry slip road blocked due to accident on M621 Westbound at J7 A61 (Stourton).

2) Very slow traffic on A62 Leeds Road in both directions at B6432 St Andrew’s Road.

3) Slow traffic on A640 Westbound before M62 J23 / A643 (Huddersfield).

4) Slow traffic on A644 Huddersfield Road in both directions around Steanard Lane.

Traffic update

Afternoon all, if you’re about to head home here’s a round-up of what’s happening on the roads:

1) Very slow traffic on A62 Leeds Road in both directions at B6432 St Andrew’s Road.

2) Slow traffic on A58 Halifax Road in both directions at A644 Brighouse Road.

3) Slow traffic on A629 Huddersfield Road Southbound at A646 Dryclough Lane / Haigh Lane.

An update on the incident on Penistone Road. A resident in Shepley has said that police were called to a man threatening to jump from a wall. Any updates on this ongoing incident we will bring them to you here.

Coroners appeal for relatives of Moldgreen man

Huddersfield Coroner’s Office are appealing for any relatives of Brian Horace Gill who died last week.

Mr Gill, 83, died at his home on Cows Heys in Moldgreen on Tuesday of natural causes.

It is believed he had a daughter and two grandsons who may have moved to Germany, but could still be in the local area. Any relatives are asked to contact Coroners Officer Jayne Dawson at Huddersfield Coroner’s Office on 01274 373 754.

Penistone Road closed due to concerns for man's safety

We’re hearing reports that Penistone Road through Shepley is currently closed off due to a police incident. This is from the Sovereign garage down to The Knowle, where Shepley Spring is based.

A police spokesperson has said this is due to “concerns over a man’s safety”.

Serious road collision in Skelmanthorpe

News of another road collision - a motorcyclist has been seriously injured after colliding with a Ford Focus in Skelmanthorpe.

This incident happened on FRiday evening at around 7.20pm when the off road motorcycle collided with the Ford Focus at the junction on Commercial Road and Chapel Close, near to the Co-Op.

The motorcyclist was taken to Leeds General Infirmary with serious but not life-threatening injuries. Police have asked that anyone who saw the collision gets in touch with Pc Hepworth via 101 quoting log 1489 of 13th January.

Paint spillage pollutes river

A paint spillage from a vehicle on the M606 this weekend has since transferred to the local river, polluting Spen Beck in Dewsbury.

Ash Milnes posted this picture on Twitter revealing the extent of the pollution. As you can see, Environment Agencies are aware.

Attempted robbery at newsagents

Calderdale detectives are looking for a man with a “large, pointed nose” who tried to rob a newsagents in Halifax.

The incident occurred on Thursday at 5pm at the shop on Cross Street West, when the suspect approached a member of staff making demands and threats before making off. Nothing was taken in the incident.

The suspect was described as a white British male, around 5ft 9in, aged between 30-35 and of a skinny build and thin face. He was wearing dark clothing at the time. Anyone with information is asked to contact PC James Gibbs of Halifax Neighbourhood Policing Team via 101, quoting 13170018189.

Update on Fixby Road collision

A few more details emerging from the scene on Fixby Road. The accident involving a white Citroen C4, a blue Nissan Micra and a motorcycle happened at the junction of Fixby Road and Broomfield Road, at around 9.45am. It is not thought anyone was seriously hurt in the accident.The crash is being attended by police and an ambulance crew.

Car "made off" after knocking down 82-year-old woman

Police are appealing today after an elderly lady was injured in a road accident in Honley on Friday.

The 82-year-old woman was crossing the road on Westgate at 1.30pm when she was knocked down by a Vauxhall Astra, which then made off in the direction of the roundabout connecting to Moor Bottom.

The woman was taken to HRI and is now recovering at home. Officers are appealing for anyone who saw the Astra, described as either grey or red, immediately prior to the incident to get in touch via 101 quoting crime reference 13170022642.

Reports of an accident on Fixby Road near the crematorium this morning. A collision between a motorbike and a car - take care if you’re in the area. Police are now at the scene.

Teenage girl among three arrested in Skelmanthorpe incident

We have an update on the incident police were called to in Skelmanthorpe this morning.

Officers have arrested a 16-year-old girl, 26-year-old woman and a 17-year-old boy after three houses were targeted in Skelmanthorpe. The three have been arrested on suspicion of attempted burglary - it is understood nothing was taken in the incident.

Police still questioning woman in Gomersal murder probe

Police are continuing to question a woman this morning over the death of Gomersal man David Butterfield.

A murder investigation was launched over the weekend and a 47-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of killing the 43-year-old. Police applied for a 36 hour extension to question her yesterday.

Vehicle break down causing tailbacks on the M62

If you’re heading over to Manchester, there are a few difficulties between junctions 19 and 18 on the M62 westbound following a car transporter that’s broken down shutting off one lane.

Giants player Kruise Leeming has committed to another four years with the team, it was announced this morning.

The player has signed a contract to remain with them until 2020.

Police chased masked suspects "for several streets"

Police were called to a house in Skelmanthorpe in the small hours after reports of people in masks breaking in at 3.30am. A chase ensued for several streets before a suspect was detained and arrested. Two other suspects were subsequently found nearby and were also arrested, and a car was seized.

A spokesperson for the Kirklees Rural neighbourhood team said: “This was a terrifying incident for the occupants, and we are so proud to have been able to work together to detain the suspects. As a service, we don’t always get it right, but this morning we very much did.”

We are currently waiting to hear back from police for any further information on this.
