Traffic easing on M62
All lanes open and traffic easing, broken down vehicle removed on M62 Eastbound between J22 A672 (Rishworth Moor) and J23 A640 / A643 (Huddersfield).
Lane three (of three) was closed.
This llama was born at Cannon Hall Farm, near Denby Dale, yesterday.
Here he (or she - they haven’t found out the sex yet) is with mum.
Rush Hour Round-up
This afternoon’s M62 closure - and a broken down lorry in the other direction - has had some wide knock-on effects on traffic around Huddersfield.
There’s very slow traffic on the following roads:
- A6107 Bradley Road/Fixby Road
- A641 Huddersfield Road into Brighouse
- A644 Huddersfield Road from through Mirfield
- A62 Leeds Road toward Heckmondwike
- A643 Crowtrees Lane through Rastrick
The M62 westbound is backing up to junction 27 (Birstall) due to a broken down lorry near junction 23 (Outlane)
And it’s pretty slow going east after junction 22 (Rishworth Moor) due to the previous closure after a woman fell from a bridge.
Traffic starting to ease up now the eastbound carriageway has been reopened.
It’s still slow between junctions 22 (Rishworth Moor) and 23 (Outlane) as the traffic flow re-establishes itself.
And it’s very slow westbound due to a broken down vehicle, near Outlane. Traffic is backing up past junction 26 (Chain Bar).

John Rushton reports that traffic at Shorehead roundabout on the Huddersfield ring road is at a standstill.

M62: Traffic appears to be diverted off at Brighouse
We’re seeing conflicting reports over whether the motorway is fully closed in this stretch. Other reports claim there are only two lanes closed.
Either way, congestion is a massive problem in the Brighouse area at the moment. Here’s how it’s looking.
It looks like traffic is being diverted off at Brighouse - we are waiting to hear an update from Highways England.
M62 closed eastbound between Brighouse and Chain Bar
M62 eastbound has been closed between junction 25 and 26 due to a police incident. Emergency services are at the scene.
Police arrest two after break-in at Currys
Two men were arrested this morning after a raid at the Currys Huddersfield store.
The men, from Bradford, are being questioned after a hole was knocked in the wall at the Great Northern Retail Park store on Leeds Road and ladders were used to gain entry.
Police were called at 12.30am and two men, aged 33 and 35, were arrested.
Puppy tracked down after being stolen from Huddersfield mum
A Huddersfield woman tracked down an alleged thief after a puppy was stolen from a heavily pregnant mum.

Liam Gallagher announced as latest act lined up for Leeds Fest
Liam Gallagher has been announced as one of the performers joining the line-up for Leeds Festival this year.
The former Oasis frontman will be headlining along with Muse, Kasabian and Eminem. Tickets are already on sale for the Reading and Leeds Festival, which takes place from August 25 to 27.
Sir Patrick tells Huddersfield students "it's easy playing dead"
The University have released some fabulous pictures of Sir Patrick Stewart from his visit earlier this week.
Sir Patrick visited various departments at the University, chatting with staff and students, before sitting for a Q&A session in the afternoon on Tuesday.
One student asked what it was like to play dead on camera, to which he replied: “But dying is easy on film. It’s all about breath control. On stage, however, you can be ‘dead’ for 20 minutes!”
Two boys released without charge after Fartown stabbing
Two boys arrested after a boy was stabbed in Fartown have been released without charge.
A 16-year-old boy was stabbed in the chest and arm at 3pm on Wednesday in the Red Doles Lane, Fartown Green Road area. He was released from Huddersfield Royal Infirmary the same day.
Det Insp Stef Wiseman of Kirklees CID said: “Both juveniles have been released without charge on police bail. Enquiries are still ongoing.”
Thief targeted elderly lady walking to church
This is truly sickening - an 81-year-old woman had her handbag stolen by a thief who targeted her while she was walking to church.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the theft this morning after it occurred on Sunday shortly after 10am. The victim was walking along a ginnel in Ossett between Park Square and Fairfield Mount when she was approached from behind.
The unknown man snatched her bag before running off. The suspect is described as white male, of slim build with short hair.
Constable Alex Booth said:
“This has been a very frightening incident for the victim who has been left very shaken after what happened. If anyone was in the area on Sunday morning and may have seen anyone acting suspiciously, or who may have seen anyone matching the suspects description running from the scene I would urge them to come forward. Our enquiries are ongoing.”
Anyone who may have witnessed the theft or who has any information should call police via 101.
Huddersfield man dies in motorbike accident
A man from Huddersfield has sadly died in a motorbike collision in East Yorkshire.
The 57-year-old man, who has not yet been named, was travelling along the A614 near Market Weighton yesterday on a black Suzuki motorbike when he collided with the back of a white Vauxhall Vivaro van shortly before 3pm.
His family have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers. Anyone who can help should call Humberside Police on 101 quoting log 317 of 06/04/17.
Update: One person seriously injured following minibus crash
We have an update on the minibus crash on the M62 last night. Police have confirmed that three people were injured, one seriously.
A spokeswoman for West Yorkshire Police, who attended the scene alongside fire services and paramedics, said: “We were called at 12.22am to the M62 near junction 23 following reports of a collision involving one vehicle.
“A white Ford minibus had been involved in a collision and three people were taken to hospital - two with minor injuries and one person with serious but non life-threatening injuries. Lane three was closed for a short while and subsequently re-opened.”

Water works cause heavy traffic in Heckmondwike
Traffic issues in Heckmondwike this morning due to water mains works.
Congestion is on High Street in both directions and Batley Road at the Junction Inn traffic lights. Avoid the area if possible.
Former Chief Constable believes Ripper may have killed eight more women
Former West Yorkshire Police Chief Constable Keith Hellawell believes Yorkshire Ripper Peter Sutcliffe may have killed as many as eight further women, it’s been reported this morning.
Mr Hellawell, from Huddersfield, was the detective who finally got Sutcliffe to confess to two unsolved attempted murders. The police chief has said he would like another go at getting him to crack, and has revealed there could be as many as eight more unaccounted for murders.
Sutcliffe is serving life for 13 murder convictions, including Huddersfield sex worker Helen Rytka.
Mr Hellawell, now chairman of Sports Direct, said:
“If it would be any benefit to the criminal justice system then yes, I would see him again. I only hope the new team get some success from updated forensic techniques because I felt my task was not completed and that saddens me.”
Van on its side after hitting central reservation on M62
Emergencies attended a crash on the M62 last night after a minibus hit the central reservation near to junction 23 (Salendine Nook) and ended up on its side.
Crews from Huddersfield and Rastrick fire stations attended the scene on the westbound carriage at 12.30am.
Five people had managed to get out the vehicle and another person received minor head injuries and was taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary as a precaution. Nobody was seriously injured.
The van has since been recovered and all lanes are open as normal this morning.
