Warning over scam call to Holmfirth resident

A Holmfirth resident has warned over a possible scam call he claims he was targeted with.

The call occurs when the phone rings and goes dead straight away - receivers can dial 1471 which gives a number and brings you through to a woman with an American accent speaking slowly and delaying conversation.

Do not dial this number, as there are concerns it is a premium rate call which will appear as a hefty figure on your bill. If you receive any calls you’re concerned about, please inform police via 101.

Police say they are questioning a man following another drugs-related death.

The 43-year-old man was found unresponsive at a house in Fitzwilliam, near Wakefield, and was taken to Pinderfields Hospital before he died yesterday.

Another 43-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of supplying Class A drugs.

The death follows a series in West Yorkshire in recent weeks as police have expressed fears that drug dealers in the region are deliberately spiking drugs with Fentanyl and Carfentanyl - substances both 100 times stronger than heroin.

Vandals strike at Hartshead football club

Hartshead AFC are asking for your help after finding vandals have ripped up volunteers’ hard work.

The club are raising money to replace pitchside dugouts after yobs smashed the ones they’d recently built to pieces over the weekend.

A spokesperson for the club said: “ Our players and managers recently worked together and put our money to good use and started putting fencing up around our pitch and build pitch-side dug-outs. Unfortunately, they got vandalised within the first few weeks and have now been fully knocked over. As we have used our budgeted money, its extremely upsetting that this has happened and we currently cant afford to fully build.”
