Number of Kirklees police officers slashed by 100

The Kirklees District has seen a cut of 100 police officers in just five years, a Freedom of Information request has revealed.

Officers based in the area fell from 574 to 478 between 2010 and 2015. Before that, the number had grown from 597 in 200 to 690 in 2005.

It follows a plea from West Yorkshire Police last month over cuts to the Force’s budget and an increase in reported crime adding to the strain felt by officers. Chief Dee Collins said: “People need the reassurance that we are there when they need us.”
