Trains back running

Dewsbury Railway Station has re-opened earlier and trains will resume.

We are waiting for West Yorkshire Police to comment further.

We understand the incident a Dewsbury Railway Station was a stabbing.

Assault at train station

British Transport Police told us that a person was assaulted outside Dewbury Railway Station, then the victim walked inside the station.

West Yorkshire Police are currently dealing with the incident.

No trains through Dewsbury

Police are currently dealing with an incident at Dewsbury resulting in trains being unable to call at the station.

National Rail say they anticipate it to continue until approximately 18:15.

Rush-hour traffic round-up

Here’s a round-up of what’s happening on the roads right now:

Very slow traffic on A58 Whitehall Road at A641 Huddersfield Road, Wyke, (Hellfire Crossroads).

Very slow traffic on A629 Cow Green at Bull Green Roundabout, Halifax. Travel time is four minutes.

Very slow traffic on A62 Castlegate at A640 Trinity Street Traffic Lights in Huddersfield.

And the A629 Halifax Road out of town busy but moving from Blacker Road (Edgerton Cemetery) to A643 Brighouse Road (Ainley Top). Travel time is eight minutes.

Missing woman found

Sophie King who was subject to an earlier missing person’s appeal has now been found, West Yorkshire Police say.

It’s further afield but the A658 New Otley Road Southbound is blocked, slow traffic due to accident at B6381 Barkerend Road.

The road is blocked just before the roundabout.

Do you know David Montgomery?

Coroners are appealing for any relatives of a Birstall man to get in contact.

David Montgomery, 61, died at his home on Blackburn Road on Thursday August 10.

He died of natural causes.

Any relatives of Mr Montgomery are asked to contact Coroners Officer Jayne Dawson on 01274 373754

Weekend closures for gas works

A slip road on to the M1 in Leeds will be closed to allow Northern Gas Networks to carry out essential pipeline diversion works associated with the Thorpe Park Development.

The northbound entry slip road at Thorpe Park (junction 46 of the M1) and the A63 link roads will be closed to allow Northern Gas Networks to divert a high-pressure gas pipeline away from a development site at Thorpe Park.

The work will be carried out over 3 weekends. The closures will be from 7pm on Friday 18 August until 5am on Monday 21 August and the same on Friday 1 September until Monday 4 September and Friday 8 September until Monday 11 September.

Clearly signed diversions will be in place.

Missing girl

Sophie King has been reported missing today
Sophie King has been reported missing today

Police are appealing for information to help trace a missing woman from Leeds.

Sophie King, aged 19, was last seen this morning in Leeds City Centre at around 10.40am.

Sophie is described as white, of medium build, with blond hair tied up and around 5ft 2ins tall.

When last seen, Sophie was wearing a black hoodie, purple trousers and purple Doc Martin boots with rainbow laces. She was also wearing glasses and was wearing a multi-coloured scarf.

Anyone with information on Sophie’s whereabouts or anyone who believes they have seen Sophie, is asked to contact police on 101, quoting log number 514 of 15 June.

Rail fare hike predicted

There’s a 3.6% rail fare hike coming in the new year.

The Rail, Maritime and Transport union (RMT) say it means a minimum of an extra £337 million in revenue for the train operating companies.

Research by the RMT and the TUC has shown rail fares have been increasing at twice the rate of pay rises in recent years.

The research says the Dewsbury to Huddersfield fare will rise by £30; Marsden to Leeds will go up by £51 to £1,459 and Halifax to Huddersfield will rise by £26 to £746.

Three weeks of overnight roadworks

A main Huddersfield to Halifax road will be closed overnight for three weeks for essential repairs.

A section of Skircoat Road, the A629, between Prescott Street and Free School Lane will close overnight from Monday September 4 to Friday September 22.

Calderdale Council is carrying out work on the A629 which involves the planing and resurfacing of the carriageway.

It will be necessary to close the road to traffic from 8.30pm to 5.30am, Monday to Friday nights for the duration of the works.

Access for emergency vehicles and pedestrians will be maintained at all times. Through traffic will be diverted via Orange Street roundabout, King Cross and Skircoat Moor Road.

Delays on the M62

There are delays on the M62 due to one lane of the M62 in Greater Manchester being closed and slow traffic due to recovery work and accident.

A lorry and car were involved in the accident on M60 anticlockwise at J16 A666 (Pendlebury).

Currently there is congestion on the M62 to Birch Services. Travel time is around 20 minutes.

Lane one (of four) is closed with highways at scene.

Tribute from Labour leader

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has tweeted his tribute to Bernard Kenny, the man who battled to save MP Jo Cox when she was being murdered.

Mr Kenny died peacefully yesterday and his family spoke beautifully about him

Missing man

Police in Calderdale are appealing for information to help trace a missing vulnerable man from Brighouse.

Barry Nicholson, 70 was last seen on River Street in Brighouse shortly before 8pm on Sunday evening (August 13).

Barry is described as a white male, around 5ft call with a long white bear and grey hair.

Mr Nicholson is known to regularly walk around the Brighouse area and frequent public houses in the town. He may appear confused.

The Calder Valley Search and Rescue Team were called out to search for him, but were stood down at 2am after “searching and clearing areas of interest.”

Officers and Barry’s family are very concerned for his welfare. Anyone who has seen Barry or who knows where he is now should contact police via 101 quoting log 1428 of Aug 13.

Bus crash in Lockwood

There is still heavy traffic due to an accident involving a double decker bus on A616 Lockwood Road in both directions at Bath Street in Lockwood.
Vehicles have been moved off the road near Kwik Fit but the road remains busy.

It happened at 9.44am, and the crash involved two vehicles, a bus a commercial bus and a Renault box van

Eyewitness said there are ambulances at the scene.

We’re getting reports of slow traffic and partially blocked due to accident on A616 Lockwood Road in both directions around Summer Street.

'A true hero'

“Bernard was a true hero and a shining example of Yorkshire and British bravery.”

Those are the words of Jo Cox’s sister, Kim Leadbeater, who paid tribute to Bernard Kenny, the hero who thought nothing of himself and tried to save Jo Cox when she was being murdered.

Road closure

If you use a main Elland commuter road be aware it is closed.

There are no buses between Holywell Green and Stainland.

During these works First bus services 537, 538 and 539 will run temporary timetables and routes:

  • 537 Huddersfield - Outlane - Stainland - Outlane - Huddersfield
  • 538 Huddersfield - Ainley Top - West Vale - Elland - Holywell Green - Elland - Ainley Top - Huddersfield
  • 539 Halifax - Elland - Holywell Green - West Vale - Halifax
