Police are appealing for assistance in tracing a man suspected of a number of offences across Calderdale.

Andrew Wilmore, 34, is known to frequent the areas of Todmorden in West Yorkshire and Burnley in Lancashire, but may also be known in areas of Greater Manchester.

He is wanted on in connection with a number of offences across Calderdale including burglary and dangerous driving.

Anyone with any information about Andrew Wilmore’s whereabouts is asked to contact Calderdale CID via 101 quoting 13170447671.

Information can also be passed anonymously to the independent crime fighting charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

A researcher at the university studying cancer treatments says doctors should wear temporary tattoos of melanomas to create more empathy for patients.

Professor Nigel King, Dean at the School of Human and Health Sciences, has been working with experts to publish a study into empathy between doctors and cancer patients. The study explores how temporary tattoos of growths could help medical students’ personal understandings of a malignant melanoma (skin cancer).

Melanomas are the fifth most common cancer in the UK claiming more than 2,500 lives every year.

Prof King said: “The melanoma temporary tattoo provided a profound experience because one thing you don’t often realise until you have melanoma is, compared to other cancers and diseases, there is a physical sign of it. Meaning if you have it, you are constantly reminded you have got it.”

Staff at West Yorkshire Police’s call centre have been answering questions from the public about what it’s like to work the job.

It’s all part of a bid to recruit more call handlers due to increasing pressure on public services. Hannah Saville, James Hemsley and Sophie Lester from the 999 call centre have been talking on a live broadcast on the Force’s Facebook page about what goes on on the other side of the phone line. The team take around 1,000 999 calls a day, and 3,000 101 calls - that’s around three calls a minute!

A person has had to be extricated from a car following a collision in Calderdale this lunchtime.

Fire services rescued the passenger after the three-vehicle collision on Burnley Road, Todmorden, shortly after 12pm. The person has been taken to hospital by ambulance.

Crews from Todmorden and Mytholmroyd attended the scene.

The Home Office have outlawed two sects of an already-banned far-rght group under terrorism laws.

Scottish Dawn and NS131, both alises of neo-Nazi group National Action, have been proscribed under the Terrorism Act. National Action were banned by Home Secretary Amber Rudd last year, and are the first far-right group on the list of banned organisations.

PLAYBOY FOUNDER HUGH HEFNER DIES AGED 91

Playboy founder Hugh Hefner has died aged 91, the publication announced on Twitter. The magazine posted a photo in black and white of its creator, accompanied by one of his quotes that read: “Life it too short to be living somebody else’s dream.” Describing him as an “American icon”, they tweeted: “Hugh M. Hefner passed away today. He was 91. #RIPHef” In a further statement Playboy Enterprises said Hefner “peacefully passed away today from natural causes at his home, The Playboy Mansion, surrounded by loved ones”.

TERRORIST ATTACK WITNESSES SHOULD FLEE RATHER THAN TAKE PICTURES, SAY POLICE
Police chiefs have warned eyewitnesses to flee the scene of a terrorist attack rather than getting their smartphones out to take photos or record video. Officers highlighted the recent episode at Parsons Green, where images of a partially exploded bomb on a Tube train were posted online within minutes. The warning forms part of a new campaign aimed at ensuring children and teenagers know the key safety steps to follow if they are caught up in a terror incident.

MAY TO DEFEND FREE MARKET IN SPEECH HAILING BANK OF ENGLAND INDEPENDENCE

Prime Minister Theresa May is to mount a strong defence of free market capitalism as she marks 20 years of Bank of England independence. Mrs May, who started her professional life at the bank in 1977, will stress the value of an open financial system which has the right level of regulation. Speaking at a conference to mark the anniversary, the PM will say: “A free market economy, operating under the right rules and regulations, is the greatest agent of collective human progress ever created.

A cyclist has been injured in a collision involving a Vauxhall Vectra in Berry Brow.

Police and the ambulance service were called to Woodhead Road, at its junction with Station Road, at around 4.20pm yesterday. The cyclist, a man in his late 30s and from Holmfirth, was said to be conscious and breathing.

West Yorkshire Police said the Vectra driver had stopped at the scene. The extent of the man’s injuries have not been disclosed.

The Golcar circular won’t be stopping outside Greenhead College until further notice, students have been warned.

The 301 service which normally stops right outside the college has had to make a temporary change to its route.

This plane bound for Alicante was circling Leeds Bradford Airport after an issue with the fuel earlier.

Pilots were trying to reduce the fuel weight and had to make an unscheduled landing back at LBA.

A man was hit over the head with a bottle in a vicious attack in Halifax town centre.

The 31-year-old victim was outside a nightclub on Silver Street when he was assaulted following a dispute between two men and a woman. He sustained a serious head injury in the attack and was taken to hospital, but has since been discharged. A Samaritan came to his aid and took the victim and the victim’s friend home.

Officers are now appealing to anyone who witnessed the attack, which happened on Sunday, September 10, and are also keen to speak to kind Samaritan who helped. Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101, quoting crime reference 13170422674.

A dry day ahead with some actual real life sunshine poking its head through the clouds later. Temperatures of up to 17 degrees, too. I wouldn’ call it an Indian Summer just yet though, as showers are expected tomorrow and over the weekend.

Examiner weatherman Paul Stevens says the town has had double the average rainfall this month.

Last night’s heavy showers brought down nearly 18mm of rain, meaning a total of 135.6mm so far the month. The number is double what Huddersfield receives on average in September.

But will one of them be Huddersfield?

The venues for the start and finish of each day of the four day race will be announced today. The race has so far been just three days long, but organisers announced last week that next year’s event would be an extra day.

Cyclists have passed through Huddersfield twice during the annual event, which began in 2015.

The two men were injured in the baseball bat attack on Sunday after a video appearing on Facebook suggested they had been ‘acting suspiciously’ in Ravensknowle Park.
