We are getting report of police activity in the Waterloo/Fenay Bridge area tonight.

The police helicopter has been spotted over these area earlier tonight.

We understand the search is in response to a call from the member of the public.

Latest from the roads

There’s heavy traffic on A629 Salterhebble Hill and Huddersfield Road around the hospital by A646 Dryclough Lane. Travel time is eight minutes.

Plus queueing traffic on A644 Brighouse and Denholme Road at A644 Brighouse Road (Christ Church traffic lights). Travel time is seven minutes.

Girl, 14, sexually assaulted in Greenhead Park

A teenage girl was seriously sexually assaulted in Greenhead Park on Friday.

The 14-year-old girl made a report to the police that she had been victim of a serious sexual assault at around 6pm.

A 15-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with the incident and is currently in police custody.

Detective Constable Paul Campbell of Kirklees CID, said: “Although this happened late into the evening on Friday, I would like to appeal to anyone who was in the park or walking through the area who may have any information about this incident to come forward and speak to the police.

“There were two males seen by the girl after the incident and we would been keen to speak to them as they may be able to assist with our enquiries.

“The victim is currently being supported by specially trained officers and the investigation remains ongoing.”

The incident took place near to the entrance of Park drive south, near to the zip line

Here’s an overview of what’s happening on the roads:

1) Slow traffic on A58 Leeds and Halifax Road, Hipperholme, at A644 Brighouse Road (Christ Church traffic lights).

2) Very slow traffic on A62 Castlegate at A640 Trinity Street Traffic Lights.

3) Heavy traffic on A629 Salterhebble Hill and Huddersfield Road around the hospital by A646 Dryclough Lane. Travel time is four minutes.

5) Gas main work and temporary traffic lights on A642 Wakefield Road in both directions around Pinfold Lane. Until 26th March.

Body found, police cordon in place

A body has been discovered outside in Dewsbury.

A police cordon is in place after West Yorkshire Police were called at 12.05pm today to Syke Lane in the Earlsheaton area of Dewsbury.

A police spokeswoman said: “We were called to reports of a body. Enquiries are ongoing.” She confirmed the body was found outside, but no further details were available.

Fire engines at the scene

Here’s the emergency services at the scene of the fire on the M62.

An HGV trailer is on fire.

It’s on the M62 Westbound J32 to J31 @WYFRS are in attendance with an LGV that has a fire on the trailer. A lane 1 closure has been placed out for safety. @WYP_RPU and Traffic Officers are travelling. Some traffic congestion is in the area due to people slowing to look.

Appeal for relatives

West Yorkshire coroner’s officers are appealing for relatives of Bradford woman Linda McKie to call the Coroners Officer.

Miss Mckie, 53, died of natural causes on Monday 19 March at an address on Haslemere Close.

There were no suspicious circumstances surrounding her death.

Any relatives of Linda are asked to contact Coroners Officer Symone Holmes on 01274 471438.

If you are heading south on the M1 then be aware of an accident near Meadowhall that has led to several lanes being blocked.

Snare warning

Police are warning dog owners after snares found in the Holmfirth area.

It’s thought illegal snares were found in woods near Holmbridge and one dog may have already been caught in a snare.

Here’s an overview of the weather forecast until this coming Easter weekend.

Monday: mainly dry with sunny spells. Rain spreading in overnight.

Tuesday: cloudy through the morning with some outbreaks of locally heavy rain, then brightening up during the afternoon with some sunny spells developing, but also scattered showers. Maximum temperature 10 °C.

Wednesday to Friday: Turning colder Wednesday and Thursday with sunshine and scattered showers, perhaps wintry at times over hills. Early rain with some hill snow on Friday clearing to scattered showers. Overnight frosts.

Easter weekend, Saturday to Monday: forecasters are predicting light cloudy and breezy weather, with rain forecast too.

Armed police activity

West Yorkshire Police have confirmed there was armed police in Dewsbury last night.

But after extensive investigations, reports of a man with a gun were foudn to be a hoax.

In a statement they said:

Police were called at 18:00 last night (Sunday 25 March) to reports of a man with a firearm.



Armed police were deployed to an address on Spen Valley Road in Dewsbury.



Extensive checks were conducted in the area and there was no evidence of a firearm and it has now been established this was a hoax call to the police.

Birth Centre closed once again

We’ve just had confirmation that Huddersfield’s Birth Centre at HRI has closed once again.

Expectant mums will not be able to give birth there until April 16 at the earliest.

Hospital bosses say the six-bed ward is needed for poorly patients.

Picket line

There’s a picket line of Northern workers outside Huddersfield Railway Station this morning.

Northern workers have walked out in a long-running dispute over a bid to axe guards from trains. Workers say it will jeopardise safety, with just a driver on trains.

They are collecting signatures of support as part of the industrial action.

Northern train services are affected by industrial action today.

Some workers have walked out in response to the company’s bid to remove guards from trains.

Travel round-up

There’s a few issues on the roads right now:

M62:

Lane two (of two) is blocked, westbound.

There’s very slow traffic due to earlier accident, two cars involved on M62 Westbound near J18 M60 / M66 (Simister Island), congestion on M62 to J19 A6046 (Heywood). All lanes have been re-opened.
Lane four (of four) was blocked until around 07:25 following a minor accident. Accident had occurred within the residual delays of an earlier breakdown on the M60 between J17 and J16.

M1, northbound.

One lane blocked due to broken down lorry on M1 Northbound at J42 M62 (Lofthouse). Traffic is coping well. On the roundabout.
