Bus station evacuated after buses crash

Passengers have been evacuated from Huddersfield Bus Station following a collision between two buses.

The accident between a single-decker bus and a double-decker took place at around 4pm.

A male and a female were injured in the collision and taken to hospital although their injuries are not believed to be serious, West Yorkshire Police said.

Appeal for wanted man

Police are trying to trace a man in connection with an assault in Liversedge.

Kirklees Safeguarding would like to hear from anyone who knows the whereabouts of Christopher Doyle (32).

A warrant has been issued for his arrest and efforts to locate him have been ongoing in the Kirklees area over the last few weeks. Anyone with any information about his whereabouts of believes they have seen him is asked to call police on 101 quoting crime reference 13180255649.

Three arrested over Fartown shooting

Three 18-year-olds from Huddersfield have been arrested this morning over Sunday’s shooting on Hammond Street.

The men remain in custody today after they were arrested in the early hours of this morning.

Enquiries are ongoing into the incident in which an 18 year old man received a non-life threatening injury from a firearms discharge during Sunday evening.

Anyone who has information about the incident is asked to contact the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team on 101 referencing police crime number 13180462836.

Investigations continue into town centre rape

Police say they are continuing to investigate reports of a rape in Huddersfield town centre in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Officers were called at 3am to Chancery Close where they say they were responding to a woman who had been victim of a serious sexual assault.

No arrests have been made and a spokesperson for the force said “enquiries are ongoing”.

Disruption to Huddersfield trains

TransPennine Express are reporting delays between Huddersfield and Dewsbury with reduced speeds because of engineering works. Trains could be delayed by up to 15 minutes.

Northern are reporting a good service with no major disruptions.

Man denies murdering brother in baseball bat incident

A man has appeared in court pleading not guilty to murder after his brother died in an attack involving a baseball bat.

Ibrahim Mahetar is charged with murder after his brother Naseem Yusuf Mahetar sustained fatal injuries in the attack behind a house on Town Street, Batley, on Friday, August 31.

Weather warnings still in place

Warnings over strong winds are still in place today.

The Met Office issued a yellow weather warning yesterday - that would last until 6pm today - as Storm Helene swept in last night. Luckily, there doesn’t seem to have been any major damage so far.

M62 problems on the Manchester side

One lane closed and queueing traffic westbound heading towards Manchester from Huddersfield. This is between junctions 21 and 19.

Concerns for missing teenager

Police are worried over the whereabouts of a 16-year-old boy from Huddersfield.

Eli Jones, also known as Eli Child, was last seen in Fixby at 1.30am on Wednesday, August 29. He is described as white, 5ft 7ins tall, of medium build, with short, light brown hair and hazel coloured eyes. It’s not known what he was wearing at the time he went missing.

Extensive enquiries have been made since Eli was reported missing but there have so been no further confirmed sightings of him in the Huddersfield area.

Anyone who has seen Eli or with information about his movements or current whereabouts is asked to call Kirklees District CID via 101, quoting log 832 of 29/08.

Morning. A few incidents on the M62 this morning. Slow traffic eastbound between junctions 26 and 27 due to an earlier accident between a car and lorry. Traffic is crawling back to Ainley Top so expect delays if you’re Leeds-bound.
