Emergency repairs to potholes on the M62 are causing delays of up to 90 minutes on the M62.

The repairs are being carried out by Highways England between junction 19 (Heywood) and 20 (Rochdale).

Two lanes are currently closed and there is static traffic going back to junction 15 (Swinton Interchange).

Traffic now starting to ease

However, tailbacks are still stretching as far as Stretford, south of the Trafford Centre.

M62 update

All lanes of the M62 have now re-opened and travel time is around 1 hour and 40 minutes.

There’s still stop-start traffic due to earlier emergency repairs on M62 Eastbound between J19 A6046 (Heywood) and J20 A627(M) Rochdale, congestion on M60 to J11 A57 (Barton).

What we know so far

The repairs on the eastbound carriageway between junctions 19 (Heywood) and 20 (Rochdale) began at 12.40pm.

The potholes were reported to the Highways Agency, which manages Britain’s motorways and major routes, this morning.

Two lanes (of three) are currently closed and traffic is backing up to junction 10 (Trafford Centre).

Statement from Highways England

There are long delays on the M62 and M60 in Greater Manchester due to emergency repairs on the M62 eastbound between J19 (Heywood) and J20 (A627M / Rochdale).

Lanes 2 and 3 are closed to allow emergency carriageway repairs to take place with Highways England Area Team on scene.

Traffic heading towards the area is advised to allow additional travelling time or to consider alternative routes where possible as there are long delays on approaches from the M62, M60, M66 and M61.
