A soccer fan has completed his own unique tribute to the 96 people who died in the Hillsborough tragedy.

Jason Edwards, 43, of Deighton, featured in the Examiner in May when he unveiled the 96 names tattooed on his back.

Now dad-of-two Jason has gone through the pain barrier to complete the body art memorial.

Jason went public with his tattoo just after a jury returned verdicts of unlawful killing following a two-year inquest.

Jason, a cleaner, was only 15 at the time of the tragedy in April, 1989, but is a big Reds fan and wanted to show respect to the families of those who lost their lives.

The story – and pictures – went global and Jason said he now wanted everyone to see the finished design.

A Hillsborough scroll, some wings and shading has been added and Jason is proud of the final result.

The whole thing took seven-and-a-half hours to complete and Jason said: “I’ve had so much respect from people for doing this.

“The story got picked up and went around the world. It’s been seen as far away as Singapore, Hong Kong, New Zealand and Australia.”

Jason gritted his teeth to have the second part of the tattoo completed quickly as the tattoo artist wanted to allow the more tender area around the kidneys to heal before carrying on.

“It was more painful but worth it,” said Jason.

Jason and wife Michelle, 47, went to the Huddersfield Town v Liverpool friendly on Wednesday night and sat in the front row of the main stand close to the Reds dugout.

He didn’t get a selfie with Liverpool head coach Jurgen Klopp and resisted the temptation to remove his shirt and show off the tattoo.

“I might take my shirt off at the next match between the two clubs,” he said.
