Rugby star’s widow Lizzie Jones has been recognised as a Heart Hero.

Lizzie is committed to voluntary work, and was recently on the judging panel which selected Huddersfield Giants super fan Neil Shuttleworth to represent the team in the Rugby League Challenge Cup Final Fans’ Choir.

Now, she has been recognised in the Fighting Spirit category in the British Heart Foundation’s North Heart Hero Awards.

Her late husband, Keighley Cougars rugby league player Danny Jones, 29, died last year from a hidden heart condition during a game.

Now Lizzie, of Halifax, is showing the same commitment that her husband had for his sport to help the British Heart Foundation (BHF) by raising awareness and funds.

She was presented with her award by BHF chief executive Simon Gillespie at a special ceremony at the University of Leeds.

Mr Gillespie said: “Our annual Heart Hero Awards recognise and celebrate the exceptional contribution that our supporters make to our fight against heart disease. And we’re delighted to recognise Lizzie for her amazing work raising awareness for the heart charity.”
