FREE places are available on weight loss schemes for children in Calderdale.
Calderdale Council and NHS Calderdale are working in partnership to support families to get healthy and lose weight through the Upbeat Kids scheme.
The clubs are for young people aged seven to 17 years who are overweight, and their parents or guardians, to attend for 10 weeks.
Mother and daughter, Amanda and Jaime Lee Spencer attended previous sessions at Holy Trinity Senior School in summer, 2010.
During the course Jaime Lee, who was then 13, lowered her body fat by 2.4%, reduced her waist measurement by 7cm and lost 3.1kg in body weight. Mum Amanda also lost weight, reduced her BMI and reduced her waist measurement by 7cm.
Amanda said: “It has opened our eyes to the amount of sugar and fat in foods.
“Jaime Lee is more focussed and has done really well. She will definitely keep up the healthy lifestyle thanks to the Upbeat Kids gang.”
The new programmes include:
Field Lane Primary School, Brighouse – Monday, January 31, (4pm to 5.45pm).
Brooksbank High School and Sports College, Elland – Saturday, February 5 (1pm to 4pm).
At the sessions, families can take part in exercise sessions and games, learn about healthy food and get details of sports and leisure activities.
