LOCAL builders are chasing awards for their work in the Huddersfield area.

Five local projects have been nominated for plaudits in this year’s sixth West Yorkshire Building Excellence Awards.

The finals will be held in Headingley in Leeds on Wednesday June 9 and Kirklees has five strong nominations at the prestigious event.

Details of the five local hopefuls are as follows:

George Booth & Sons Ltd – New Dwellings (multiple) category for the housing development at Southgate Fold, Honley.

Gary Morley – GLM Building Contractors Ltd – Domestic Extension Category, for the extension to 39 St Helens Gate, Almondbury.

A E Haywood & Sons Ltd – New Dwellings (single units), for the new dwelling at Ash Croft, in Farnley Tyas.

Morgan Ashurst – Educational Developments Category, for the new Hillside Primary School, Newsome.

George Booth & Sons Ltd – Restoration and Conversion (commercial category) for the repair and restoration of Northorpe Hall, Mirfield.

Clr Peter McBride, Kirklees Council Cabinet member for Regeneration, welcomed all the local award nominations.

He said: “We have some really innovative new buildings in Kirklees.

“I hope that the efforts of all those concerned are recognised in these awards.

“Good luck to all those who are nominated.”

The nominations come from within the five West Yorkshire authorities of Kirklees, Calderdale, Bradford, Wakefield and Leeds.

All finalists will receive a certificate of recognition and the winner of each category a winner’s trophy.

The event will also be fund raising for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

Guests will be entertained by top local comedian Josh Daniels.

The number of categories has increased this year to nine.

They are:

Domestic Extensions, New Dwellings (single units), New Dwellings (multiple units), Restoration and Conversion Projects (domestic), Restoration and Conversion Projects (commercial), Commercial Developments, Education Developments, Community Projects and Partnership Projects.
