A ROW bubbled up over a supermarket washing powder offer.

Javid Hussain said he was treated like a ‘thief’ at Morrisons, Waterloo, as he tried to take advantage of an offer on Ariel tablets.

Mr Hussain, of Lockwood, says a member of staff ‘snatched’ boxes of Ariel from his basket after he attempted to buy more than the limit per customer.

The supermarket was selling boxes of 20 Ariel tablets for £2.80, compared to the usual price of about £5, on April 13.

The offer was limited to two boxes per customer per day.

But Mr Javid attempted to buy six, claiming there were no signs in the store stating the limit per customer.

After he was allowed to purchase two at the checkout he immediately returned to the store to buy another two.

He was stopped by a store supervisor who removed the boxes from his basket.

Mr Hussain said: “I was immediately taken aback and shocked at her lack of consideration and indiscreet behaviour.

“I asked her to show me where on the shelf did it state two per customer. She realised that it did not.

“I then spoke to the manager. Again she reiterated the same... I told her that nowhere on the shelf does it state two per customer. Furthermore it does not state two per day, which they began to claim.

“Another customer who I had met, whilst picking up the washing liquid originally, purchased three boxes.

“This was simply rude and unprofessional behaviour from a large and experienced retailer.

“A store supervisor snatched the items from me and treated me like a thief, embarrassing me in front of other customers.”

A spokesperson for Morrisons said: “Customer service is of paramount importance to us, and therefore when we offer market leading deals we try and make it fair to our customers by giving everyone the chance to benefit.

“It was clearly signposted at the point of sale and at the checkout that, in this case, two items could be purchased per customer.

“We have investigated Mr Hussain’s complaint and are satisfied that the store team handled the matter appropriately.”
